UCM #1

Unpleasant Childhood Memory #1:
Getting into a roasting hot car in the summer, with shorts on, and nearly burning the skin off the backs of my legs on the vinyl seats.

When my grandfather passed away I was 8 I think. We inherited his black chevy Impala with maroon vinyl seats. In. Arizona. The car was hell on earth... Until the mini-van was bought when I was like 10 or 12, that was the main family transportation. I HATED it. Eventually, it was phased out as main transportation (mini van was tan and had cloth seats). Ultimately my dad repainted a portion of it... the hood and roof and trunk white so it looked like a skunk. Eventually my poor baby sister inherited it as the car she was stuck driving around whilst in high school.

I was thinking about my mom's red Ford Pinto station wagon with red vinyl seats. We used to keep beach towels on the seats so as to avoid the leg burn, but those things were constantly slipping around and coming off.

Two VW Rabbits. Leather seats. I'm no stranger to the towels on the seats!
